Rogue Gets Ready to Fight for the Crown!

Get to know some of the players that are on team Rogue!

With our recent announcement of the first ever team-based H1Z1: King of the Kill tournament, we've announced the first few teams that have locked in a spot to compete. One of these teams is Rogue, an esports organization based in Las Vegas with a pretty impressive roster.

Their H1Z1 team includes Inboxes, who placed 1st and 2nd in the two games at the 2016 Invitational, and Cloak, who is known for his high-kill games and multiple wins in Champion's Arena matches. We were able to spend some time with Inboxes and Cloak to talk about their (and the team's) upcoming strategies and plans for the Fight for the Crown tournament.

How would you describe your playstyle?

Cloak: I'm more of the shot caller. There are some insane slayers on the team, so I've taken more of the support role to make sure we're in the best position to win. When to flank, when to push; I'm letting the team know what's around them.

Inboxes: When I'm playing solo, I'm kill-hungry and going after every kill no matter if it's risky or if I'll die. When I'm playing 5s, I try to keep everyone alive as long as possible. On Rogue, I'm the shot caller - it bounces between Cloak and I making the calls.

How do you get into the mindset to compete?

Cloak: It's important to have a clear mind when you're competing. No energy drinks, nothing that will cloud your mind. Don't overthink, don't under-think, and stick to what was practiced. If I'm getting really nervous, I just close my eyes for 1-3 seconds and take 2 deep breaths. Don't panic, that's key.

Inboxes: I actually have a pre-game ritual. I crack my knuckles under warm water. I did it before the Invitational and I do it before matches at home. It helps me to relax my hands.

What goes into a normal practice?

Cloak: We usually warm up for 2 hours in solo before coming together for scrims. It's about hitting shots and warming up. Once we're warm, we usually play for about 4 hours together in scrims.

Inboxes: Outside of scrims, we play solos to warm up and sometimes duos to work on play chemistry.

What sets Rogue apart from other teams?

Cloak: We've known each other and have been playing together for a while, so we have great synergy and trust. And, our aim is extremely scary. Hands down one of the best NA rosters.

If you could give a piece of advice to a player who wanted to get into the competitive scene, what would you tell them?

Cloak: Don't give up. There are times where you'll think, "Am I good enough?" or "Can I commit enough hours?", but don't ever give up, and keep doing what you love.

Inboxes: Patience is required, especially with growing esports scenes. Participate in community-organized events and keep practicing because esports can't grow without the community behind it.

Inboxes, will you be playing differently than you did in the Invitational?

Inboxes: I'll probably be playing pretty similarly. The Invitational plan was to find a good spot and fend everyone off from there. Playing 5s will be a little different because it's on a bigger scale, so there's more ground to cover.

Anything else that either of you would like to add?

Cloak: I'm super excited for the opportunity and to be able to play with a great group of guys and for a really great organization.
