Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson Joins the Competition!

MMA Flyweight Champion will compete in the 2016 H1Z1 Invitational.

Mixed Martial Arts fighter Demetrious Johnson will be joining us as a competitor at the H1Z1 Invitational on October 2, 2016! Best known as the first and only Flyweight Champion in the UFC, Demetrious is also a lifelong gamer, a streamer, and an avid H1Z1: King of the Kill player. We got the opportunity to sit down with him and talk about some of his strategies, plans, and intentions going into this year’s Invitational.

What’s your typical strategy for a solo King of the Kill match?

My strategy changes depending on what I want to accomplish in a game. I do like to get into the middle of fights, though. I’m a gun fighter all the way; I’ll go all out and open up shop on whoever’s next. But if I think it is going to end up being a longer match, I’ll loot everything I can, make armor and gear, and take my time to really get prepared.

What weapons give you the most satisfying kills?

For guns, I’d have to say the shotgun. But it also feels really good to get a kill with an axe. I’ve definitely chased a person down with an axe before.

What was your most memorable King of the Kill moment?

I was playing with a subscriber in 2s. I ran into another player, and we were both racing towards this spot with a gun and ammo. When we got there, I got the gun and she got the ammo. We both ran into the closest house and raced for an axe that was there. I grabbed it first. My teammate told me to get her out the door, so I started chasing her outside where my teammate was waiting with a molotov cocktail. As soon as we got outside though, the cocktail hit me and he just started screaming, “I hit the wrong person!” I lived though and chased her all the way to the bridge with the axe in hand.

When did you start streaming?

I started streaming almost a year ago because I wanted to find a different way to interact with fans. I actually found Twitch when putting my kids to bed one night. I started streaming and got hooked. I’ve loved playing video games all my life and now streaming gives me an excuse to play. Twitch is awesome -- it’s like having my own podcast or TV show. I keep it real.

How have you been preparing for the Invitational?

I’ve just been getting games in. The more you practice, the better you’re going to be. I’ve had friends helping me out, showing me tricks and helping me improve at the game. Practice makes perfect, and the more I practice, the better I’ll be. I’m also staying determined - the same determination I bring to the gym is going into practicing for the Invitational.

Who’s your biggest competitor in the Invitational?

There are a few players I’ve been watching that I think are really good, and might take first place. But competition for me? Everyone.

Do you think you’re going to win?

I think that anything is possible. If I don’t place, I’m not upset. If I do, [expletive] yeah. I’m just excited to be a part of the Invitational, and to let the world know that I’m a gamer. What I really want to do is show up and make some noise.
